A 21-year-old young man was shot and injured Thursday night in the Mercier – Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood of Montreal.
The Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) was alerted by calls to 911 at around 10:35 p.m. about an injured man on Sainte-Catherine Street East near Pie-IX Boulevard.
When the police arrived at the scene, they located the victim with serious gunshot wounds to the upper body, according to SPVM spokeswoman Véronique Dubuc.

The victim was taken to a hospital, according to the SPVM, which is still awaiting feedback on his health report.
According to initial information, an altercation would have erupted before ending in shots being fired at the victim, while the suspects immediately fled before police arrived.

The crime scene was protected by a security perimeter assisted by forensic identification technicians who had to roam the scene until investigators arrived.
The dog squad was also asked to search the premises for clues as to the circumstances of this attempted murder.
