Sûreté du Québec Sergeant Maureen Breau’s funeral was intense for many Quebecers. The event was also for Kevin Parent who gave a moving musical performance in front of all of Quebec, but especially in front of the grieving family.

“We have mutual friends,” said singer-songwriter Kevin Parent.
When asked to perform for the police officer who died on duty, he didn’t hesitate. Music for him is dancing and partying, yes, but it’s much more than that.
“We see the usefulness of music in such circumstances,” he said.
This isn’t the first time Mr. Parent has performed at a funeral.
Over time, he learned a very important lesson for him: instead of running away from grief, we need to embrace and experience it.
But despite the pain, despite the sorrow, in every sorrow we must find a gift of life.
At Sergeant Breau’s funeral, the gift was police solidarity.

“If instilling an air of respect in the police force can help, then you have to remember that,” Mr. Parent said.
He hopes that through all this ordeal, people will realize that the job of the police is difficult and that they regularly risk their lives to save others.
