Days before the wedding, Meghan learned that her father, Thomas Markle, would not be able to attend the ceremony at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Prince Charles intervened, offering to walk his future daughter-in-law down the aisle. Megan’s response was a simple four-word question: “Can we meet halfway?” The response, described in Robert Hardman’s new book The Queen of Our Time (now available for pre-order), “was an indication that this was not a blushing bride, but a confident, independent woman determined to make a grand entrance on her own,” Hardman It is reported by the Daily Mail.

It was this confidence and independence that was the cornerstone of Meghan’s approach to many aspects of adapting to a new life. However, as we now know, the transition was not an easy one, and the prying eyes and scrutiny of the British tabloids didn’t help either. In March 2021, Meghan reflected on a dark chapter in her life as a new member of the royal family, telling Oprah that she had struggled with suicidal thoughts.

By early 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan had made the decision to step away from their roles as senior members of the royal family and instead forge their own public service path.
