Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas faces more questions about his finances with a new report Sunday of thousands of dollars in earnings he reports from a real estate firm with ties to his wife Ginni Thomas.
And this company no longer exists as it closed 17 years ago
Thomas reported hundreds of thousands of dollars in rental income on his financial disclosure forms from a company called Ginger, Ltd., Partnership, the Washington Post reported.
But this Nebraska real estate company, founded in the 1980s, has been defunct since 2006.
The recent revelation of problems with Thomas’ statutory financial disclosure forms has raised questions about how seriously he has taken his obligation to disclose his finances to the public.
Officials must complete such forms to demonstrate whether they have a conflict of interest between their personal finances and public duties. Thomas faces calls for an investigation and his resignation.

Sunday’s Washington Post report also detailed how Thomas had years of errors in his forms, many related to his controversial wife Ginni, who became a national figure after the 2020 election, as reports to her emails Arizona revealed officials questioning Joe Biden’s win in that state.
Clarence Thomas’ recent troubles are related to this real estate company, which closed in 2006.
After the closure, a new company, Ginger Holdings, LLC, run by Ginni Thomas’ sister, took over the holdings.
But Thomas has reported earnings from the defunct company — between $50,000 and $100,000 annually in recent years — without mentioning the new company.
It could be a simple typo.
But the Supreme Court Justice has had questions about his finances since ProPublic revealed that he and his wife Ginny accepted lavish luxury vacations from Dallas-based Republican mega-donor Harlan Crow, which Thomas didn’t publicly disclose even though he was required by law to do so.
Thomas said he didn’t disclose them because the trips were from a friend and he had been assured that “personal hospitality” from close friends was permissible.
But watchdog group CREW has filed civil and criminal charges against him over the matter, and Senate Democrats have asked Chief Justice John Roberts to investigate Crow’s gifts.
Some Democrats have called on the Supreme Court to adopt a formal code of ethics — it’s currently the only court in the federal judiciary that doesn’t have one for its nine members.
Some even called for 74-year-old Thomas to resign. Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib have called for his impeachment.
The judiciary did not respond to the Washington Post’s inquiries about the real estate earnings.
Elliott told the newspaper they could question her sister Ginni about the matter.
“You could call her and she could answer anything she wanted to tell you,” Elliott said before hanging up.
Clarence Thomas described receiving $270,000 to $750,000 from the Nebraska firm since 2006, calling it “rent.” His salary as a judge this year is $285,000.
Proceeds are tied to investments made by Ginni Thomas’ late parents. Ginni Thomas is from Omaha.
Ginni Thomas’ income has been an issue in her husband’s disclosure forms in the past

Ginni Thomas is not mentioned in the state incorporation documents establishing the new company.
But her income has been a problem for Thomas in the past.
In the 2000s, he failed to disclose his wife’s statutory employment until watchdog group Common Cause reported the omission.
Ginni Thomas earned more than $686,000 from the conservative Heritage Foundation from 2003 to 2007, but he ticked a box that said “None” for his wife’s earnings during that period.
He did the same in 2008 and 2009 while she was working for the conservative Hillsdale College.
He admitted the error in 2011 when changing his filings, saying the information was “accidentally omitted due to a misunderstanding of the filing instructions.”
Ginni Thomas is a lawyer and longtime conservative activist.
She was an ardent supporter of Donald Trump. After the 2020 election, when Trump falsely claimed it was stolen from him, her email correspondence with Trump’s election attorney John Eastman — who supported legal theory that claimed then-Vice President Mike Pence had the power to overthrow states. Election results – come to light.
Clarance Thomas is also facing questions about gifts from billionaire Republican donor Harlan
Later evidence surfaced that Thomas encouraged state legislatures in Arizona and Wisconsin to overturn presidential election results.
She was called to testify before the panel investigating the January 6 riot at the Capitol.
And many critics urged Judge Thomas to withdraw from all election-related cases coming before the Supreme Court.
Ginni Thomas told the January 6 committee that she was staying on the “political” lane at home and her husband was staying on the “legal” lane.
“He’s not interested in politics,” she said. “I didn’t talk to him at all about the details of my post-election activities, which were minimal.”
