Pierrefonds: a vehicle in poor condition after a fire

Residents of Pierrefonds contacted local police authorities around 4 a.m. Sunday morning after seeing a burned-out vehicle in the yard of an apartment building in the West Island neighborhood of Montreal.

After several calls to 9-1-1, citizens said they heard an explosion before seeing a burning vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment building on Rue Antoine-Faucon, near Rue Sheinfield.

When officers from the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) arrived at the scene, firefighters were already there trying to control the blaze.

A petrol can was found near a car.

“[L’explosion] woke me up. I immediately called 9-1-1 because I could see the flames clearly,” owner Linda Simard said in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.

“I have a little chihuahua and he’s traumatized! I tell myself it’s a fairly quiet area, a cul-de-sac, the neighbors, we get along well; There’s no problem.” That’s why she says she has “enough stress[ée]this event.

The woman also said she couldn’t go back to sleep after hearing the fire.

As indicated by Véronique Dubuc, SPVM media officer, there were no injuries at the event. No suspects were arrested either.

The property damage to the vehicle is significant.

Given the suspicious nature of this fire, the investigation was transferred to the SPVM.

The arson module investigators are in charge of the file and will attempt to determine the causes and circumstances of this incident.
