Four dead in shooting at teens birthday party in Alabama

Four people died and many others were injured in Dadeville, Alabama, that Saturday night, officials confirmed on Sunday morning. Local media say the shooting took place at the birthday party of a teenager who turned 16. Dadeville, about 50 miles northeast of Montgomery, is in eastern Alabama and is a city of just over 3,000 people.

A dispute, the details of which are not known, led to the shooting. “At approximately 11:45 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at the request of the Dadeville Police Commissioner, special agents from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigations began an investigation into the death,” the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said in a statement.

“The investigation follows a shooting that occurred at approximately 10:34 p.m. near the 200 block of Broadnax Street in Dadeville, Tallapoosa County. Four deaths and multiple injuries have been confirmed at this time,” they added.

Gov. Kay Ivey wrote on social media: “This morning I mourn with the people of Dadeville and my countrymen from Alabama. Violent crime has NO place in our state and law enforcement will keep us updated as details emerge.” wrote in a tweet.

Local network WRBL-TV reported that the shooting took place in a dance hall. The channel showed crime scene footage around the Mahogany Masterpiece Dance Studio and neighboring buildings, as well as a heavy police presence.

The shooting comes days after a gunman shot dead five people in Louisville, Kentucky. Connor Sturgeon, 25, wore jeans, sneakers and a blue shirt and carried an AR-15, a powerful rifle he legally bought a week before it killed five people, all of whom were employees. He broadcast the horror live via Instagram.
