The study, published in the medical journal JAMA Open Network, follows a report by the Canadian Center on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) which found that Canadians should consume no more than two alcoholic beverages per week to minimize healthrelated risks with alcohol.
The researchers reviewed a total of 107 studies conducted between 1980 and 2021, involving an estimated 4.8 million people. They found that consuming more than one standard drink per day significantly increased the risk of premature death, especially among women.
