Major Baseball: Édouard Julien cleared twice in 24 hours

Quebec’s Édouard Julien started his first full series in major league baseball on Friday but has since fallen from his cloud. He was silenced for the second straight game in Saturday’s 6-1 Minnesota Twins loss to the Yankees in New York.

The Old Capital native inherited the first rank of the Twins’ offensive role, which allowed him to visit the record four times. He was hit twice and hit two grounders.

The day before, in a 4-3 win for the Minnesota team, Julien had bitten the dust on shots.

In his second game with the majors on Thursday, he had many eyes catching by hitting his first shot and first long ball, all in a single inning.

The Twins had all the trouble in the world to demystify Domingo German’s shots (1-1) in the match of the day. He pulled the opposing batsmen back with such efficiency that the umpires stopped play in the third inning to check he hadn’t put a sticky substance on his hand.

After more than five minutes of chatter, the officials allowed the game to continue without finding a reason to sanction the 30-year-old gunner. The Twins’ manager, Rocco Baldelli, was barred from the gathering.

German has hit no fewer than 11 in six and a third inning. He allowed a double and a deserved run.

On offense, young Anthony Volpe continued his momentum, hitting bases three times thanks to a goal and two free passes.

Kyle Higashioka and Anthony Rizzo held out their arms in victory.

The Yankees will even look to the series on Sunday when they host the Twins for the fourth time in as many days.
