Coachella acrobat falls onto stage during live DJ performance in California desert

  • The dancer fell during a Coachella performance on Saturday while dancing above the stage as spectators looked on in horror
  • She lay motionless on the stage before paramedics carried her away on a stretcher
  • Her condition remains unclear and one bystander is said to have fainted from shock at the sight of the horrific accident

A Coachella dancer fell from the rigging while hanging high above a stage during a live performance at the California Music Festival on Saturday.

Terrifying footage showed the dancer spinning about twenty feet above the stage while a DJ was playing a set, when she suddenly fell as she began to straighten up.

The woman tumbled onto the stage below, where she appeared to land hard between two speakers while onlookers heard screams of terror.

She had been dancing for about five minutes before the fall, according to TMZ, and it remains unclear whether she injured herself while dancing and then fell, or if the fall was caused by a mere slip.

It wasn’t the first time a concert staffer was injured at Coachella. In 2019, a worker fell to his death while setting up a stage in preparation for the festival.

After the fall, the dancer could be seen lying motionless as other dancers jumped to her aid.

Paramedics arrived quickly and she lay motionless on her back while they tended to her and the DJ continued playing.

She was later strapped to a stretcher and carried away.

The dancer’s condition remains unclear, but she was seen in the footage blinking.

Coachella did not respond to requests from DailyMail.com for comment on her condition or the cause of the fall.

Onlookers urged the DJ to stop playing while the woman was treated, according to TMZ, and one member of the audience reportedly fainted from shock at the sight of the fall.

The incident wasn’t the first dangerous fall in Coachella history.

In 2019, a worker fell to his death while setting up a stage in preparation for the festival.

The worker was a “lead rigger” and a stagehand for Coachella for twenty years, the festival said, describing him as “a colleague, a friend, a family member.”

“He’s been in the desert with our team for 20 years, doing what he loved. He was a hardworking and loving person who cared deeply about his team. As our lead rigger, he was responsible for the countless incredible shows put on at the festival.”

Officials said he fell from a roof while setting up a stage and was already dead when authorities arrived.

Earlier in 2014, a 24-year-old Oakland woman died after collapsing from a drug overdose at the festival.

Kimchi Truong was rushed to hospital after passing out at a taxi rank during the festival, only to die days later. It was believed that her overdose was caused by a mixture of drugs and alcohol.

And in 2008, a 21-year-old festival-goer died after being found unresponsive at a private campground unrelated to the official Coachella site.
