Ending the agricultural crisis is the priority of the Polish government. Since the start of the Russian offensive more than a year ago and the drop in exports across the Black Sea, Poland has become the number one transit country for agricultural commodities from Ukraine. Due to logistics problems, stocks are piling up. In view of the drop in prices and huge losses for professionals, on Saturday, April 15, the executive decided to ban the import of Ukrainian grain.

Hungary does the same

The ruling nationalist Law and Justice Party is a stumbling block as parliamentary elections approach next year. The Minister of Agriculture had to resign. At a meeting this weekend, the number 1 of the ruling party, Jaroslav Kazinski, stressed in vain that Poland, an ally of Kiev, would continue to support Ukraine at any cost. The decision was taken coldly by Kiev. According to Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, talks between the two countries are scheduled to take place on Monday, April 17.

After Poland, Hungary has also decided to ban grain imports from Ukraine. Kiev normally exports most of its agricultural products, especially grain, through its Black Sea ports. This was announced by the Hungarian Minister of Agriculture on Facebook. The two countries have clarified that these bans will last until June 30.

In Poland, this embargo affects grains, but also sugar, meat, fruit and vegetables, milk, eggs and other foods. In Hungary these are grain, oilseeds and some other agricultural products.
