The passage of a train loaded with dozens of tanks surprised passengers at the Udine train station.
The train, filmed by some people with cellphones on Friday, passed through the Italian train station at low speed towards Austria. According to some witnesses, these were 155 mm self-propelled howitzers of the M109 type, which apparently did not have identification marks.
Delivery to Ukraine
Italian Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani told public broadcaster Rai that they are “self-propelled artillery vehicles” destined for Ukraine and part of a military aid package “from the previous government (around Prime Minister Mario Draghi, note) decided and it was delivered this week”. Ciriani explained that the vehicles were stored in Italian warehouses.
Right-wing politician and prime minister Giorgia Meloni had previously supported arms deliveries to Ukraine before winning the election last September. On the other hand, his two coalition partners – Matteo Salvini of the right-wing Lega and Silvio Berlusconi of the conservative Forza Italia – have repeatedly made pro-Russian statements.
