Fighting has been raging across Sudan since Saturday, when a weeks-long power struggle erupted in deadly violence between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Khartoum area

Important buildings and infrastructure were damaged during fighting in the Sudanese capital. The main combat zones included the military headquarters and the neighboring airport.

Footage from Saturday shows a fighter jet flying low over civilian buildings near Khartoum International Airport and a jet firing a missile over the city.

This footage shows debris and damage to a house in Khartoum Bahri, which is north of Khartoum across the Blue Nile.

This footage from Sunday shows a plane on fire at Khartoum airport.

And this footage from Tuesday shows the moment an explosion near the military’s headquarters in the center of the city was captured on live TV.

Each side already has tens of thousands of soldiers spread out around the districts of Khartoum and the western city of Omdurman on the opposite bank of the Nile.

The rest of the country

Fighting has affected several parts of the country, including the western desert region of Darfur, which borders Chad, where war has killed up to 300,000 people and displaced 2.7 million since 2003.

At least 65 people have been killed in Darfur since Saturday, including in heavy artillery clashes, according to the United Nations. This photo shows smoke rising in the north Darfur town of Al Fasher on Monday following clashes between the army and the RSF.
