Lavrov visits Cuba after blitz trip to Nicaragua

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is visiting Cuba, where he will meet with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodríguez on Thursday to promote cooperation and friendly relations between the two countries.

Ortega and Lavrov minimized the impact of US sanctions

He does so after a blitz visit to Nicaragua, where he met with President Daniel Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo. Ortega and Lavrov downplayed the impact of US sanctions. The Russian Foreign Minister thanked Nicaragua for Russia’s support in connecting with Latin American integration organizations.

“Multipolarity is the order of the day, it is an objective historical process. He cannot be stopped. Even if the collective West, united under the umbrella of American exceptionalism, is trying,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Russia and Nicaragua signed an agreement on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in March

Russia is a key ally of Nicaragua, to which it supplies wheat. In addition, it has supplied buses for public transport, cars for taxis and Sputnik vaccines against COVID-19.

Russia is one of Cuba’s top ten trading partners

In Cuba, a meeting between Lavrov and President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who has just started his second and final five-year term, is not out of the question. Cuba is the final stop of Lavrov’s tour of Latin America after visiting Brazil, Venezuela and Nicaragua.
