Woody Harrelson confirms Matthew McConaughey could be his brother

(CNN) Woody Harrelson has backed up Matthew McConaughey’s claim that they might be brothers, saying during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, “There’s some truth to that notion.”

“We want to do a DNA test, but it’s a much bigger deal for him,” Harrelson said. “I mean, he feels like he’s losing a father. But I think no, you gain another father and a brother.”

Like McConaughey, Harrelson recalled a conversation with “Ma Mac, Matthew’s legitimate mother,” when she told them she “knew Harrelson’s father….”

“It’s crazy. We were in Greece watching the US team win the World Cup and I mentioned something about regret,” Harrelson said. “And I said, ‘You know, it’s weird that my dad doesn’t have any regrets.’ And I’ve known Ma Mac for a long time, and she says, ‘I knew … your father.’ And it was the ellipses that I found a little disturbing or interesting.”

Their break, Harrelson added, was “full of innuendos.” Colbert quipped that it might even have been a “pregnant break.”

Last week, on the podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa,” McConaughey said that Harrelson’s father was on vacation at the same time his own parents were getting their second divorce, and that his mother and Harrelson’s father were in West Texas can meet.

Harrelson and McConaughey will star in an upcoming Apple TV+ series in a fictionalized portrayal of their friendship.

Similarly, Harrelson told Colbert, “The year of [Matthew’s] birth, nine months earlier, she was on sabbatical from her relationship with his alleged father Jim.

The True Detective stars will soon be starring in the Apple TV+ comedy series Brother From Another Mother, a fictionalized account of their own decades-long friendship that began after they met while working on Ron Howard’s EDtv . “

Harrelson will also appear in the HBO series White House Plumbers alongside Justin Theroux, who told Entertainment Tonight he wouldn’t be surprised if McConaughey and Harrelson turned out to be half brothers. (CNN and HBO share parent company Warner Bros. Discovery.)

“I can’t tell if it’s just their kind of slow Southern and Texas stretches or if I think Texas is in there somewhere,” Theroux said. “It’s just a mentality. They are both so wonderfully chilled the whole time.”
