On this day of therapeutic cannabis, it seems interesting to remember the conditions of its use on French territory.
Thursday April 20th is Medical Cannabis Day. In fact, for several years this plant has been presented as a means of relieving pain and given the difficulty or even impossibility of providing satisfactory results to certain patients, this path is beginning to be taken more seriously by health professionals.
Therapeutic cannabis: use authorized in France but with conditions
Can we only use therapeutic cannabis in France? This is what the government assures us: “On an experimental basis and no later than March 25, 2024, the medical use of cannabis in the form of medicinal products may be authorised.” This use must fall under the following conditions: “neuropathic pain caused by accessible therapies (drug or not), ‘certain drug-resistant forms of epilepsy’, ‘certain intractable symptoms in oncology related to cancer or anti-cancer’, ‘palliative situations’. ‘ and ‘painful pasticity in multiple sclerosis or other central nervous system pathologies’.
In order to obtain therapeutic cannabis, it is necessary to turn to a structure suitable for this type of experimentation. If you are not already being cared for in such a facility, the doctor treating you can refer you to one of these structures. In the end, we are told, it is up to the establishment’s doctor to validate or not the use of therapeutic cannabis.
Except for a medicinal remedy, consumption of the plant remains prohibited.
The public service website reminds that the consumption of cannabis outside of a medical setting is still prohibited in France. Violators will be fined 200 euros.
