Iconic Australian TV show set to be canceled after 14 years: The TV network plans to replace it with an ‘addictive’ new format
A legendary Australian game show is set to close after an impressive 14 years, industry rumors have it.
Millionaire Hot Seat, which airs weekdays at 5pm on Channel Nine and is hosted by network star and ex-CEO Eddie McGuire, is reportedly on the brink.
Nine wants to replace Hot Seat with a local version of the popular British game show Tipping Point, reports TV Blackbox.
Executives have set out to film their own tipping point at the show’s UK studios, with “Aussie expats and tourists” as contestants.
This saves the cost of setting up a completely new production facility in Sydney or Melbourne.

It’s unclear if English presenter Ben Shephard will host the Australian version, or if he will be replaced by a UK-based Australian presenter.
The UK version of Tipping Point, a quiz that combines luck and general knowledge, is already airing weekdays at 3pm on Nine, having replaced the 9News Now bulletin in December 2019.
It is possible that the UK and Australian versions of Tipping Point will be broadcast on the same channel with a one-hour break.
This is already happening on Channel Seven, which airs The Chase UK at 3pm, followed by The Chase Australia at 5pm on weekdays.
Millionaire Hot Seat is believed to be facing the ax due to its plummeting ratings.
Although the game show recently celebrated a milestone of 2,500 episodes, Nine executives are aware that the series isn’t reaching the audience it used to have.
