An airline worker dies after suffering “traumatic injuries” on the Austin, Texas tarmac – months after an Alabama airline worker was fatally sucked into the engine
An American Airlines employee died from “traumatic injuries” while on the tarmac at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas.
The tragedy happened around 2 p.m. Thursday, and paramedics pronounced the employee at the scene dead.
An airport spokesman said paramedics from Austin Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) rushed to the incident on the airfield apron and later determined that the cause of death was due to traumatic injuries.
Austin Police said they were investigating an “accident,” but ATCEMS confirmed medics were sent for a cardiac arrest, according to the KVUE.

In a statement, Austin Bergstrom International Airport said: “This afternoon, AUS was notified that Austin-Travis County EMS has responded to an injured airline worker.
“The incident happened outside the terminal where planes are parked at their gates. ATCEMS declared the employee deceased.
“Our thoughts are with this employee and everyone affected by today’s tragic event.” The airport added that the incident will not have a significant impact on its operations.
American Airlines confirmed the deceased was a member of its staff when contacted by , saying in a statement: “We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS ) was involved.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members. We are focused on ensuring everyone involved has the support they need during this difficult time.’
It comes months after another airline worker lost his life after being forcefully sucked into the engine of a plane that recently landed at Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama.
Courtney Edwards, 34, was working as a ground agent for Piedmont Airlines when the tragedy struck on New Year’s Eve.
The mother-of-three had reportedly been warned repeatedly to stay back after standing too close to the engine before being sucked into the mechanics, rocking the entire plane.
