STAT: Beware of the Fauberts |

Oh good, oh good. STAT fans (whoa!) have known for a few days that psychiatrist François Éthier (Daniel Parent) didn’t willingly fall into the void to end his life.

You now know who spent the last few minutes with him and who might have driven him to his death.

Before we dissect the gripping finale of Radio-Canada’s beloved medical soap opera, here’s the whistleblower’s alarm ringing like the bells on the video lottery machines that nurse Éric (Stéphane Rousseau) has been feeding all year.

That’s good ? Go! So it was the cool and mysterious paramedic Jacob Faubert (Lou-Pascal Tremblay) who confronted François, wife of Emmanuelle St-Cyr (Suzanne Clément), minutes before his fatal fall.

Thursday night’s episode showed Jacob in tears and despair at François’ home while Emmanuelle performed CPR on the body lying on the sidewalk. But did Jacob really kill François by throwing him off the balcony?

It’s impossible to confirm because no picture proves it. Was there a third person in the apartment at the same time as Jacob and François? Secret.

One thing is for sure, Jacob knew François and resented him, for a reason that is still unclear. It will be remembered that Jacob gave up a post at a prestigious university center to sneak into the Saint-Vincent hospital, no doubt to keep one eye (right) on Emmanuelle and the other (left) on the police investigation into the suspicious death to be directed by François, what it implies.

Remember: Emmanuelle St-Cyr, the head of emergencies, was absent the day Jacob appeared before the Saint-Vincent selection committee. It was Isabelle Granger (Geneviève Schmidt) who interviewed Jacob. This is an interesting trail to explore.

Since STAT was fired in September, there has been a theory that Francois is in fact Jacob’s biological father. This hypothesis has nothing to do with the strings skillfully stretched by the author Marie-Andrée Labbé.

François was very close to the fleeing psychiatrist Julie Faubert (Isabelle Brouillette), Jacob’s mother. They could have had an extramarital affair or just slept together during one of their many meetings.

Still, Jacob would never have put so much energy into finding information about his biological father’s disappearance in Thailand if he had known that François is his real parent. You must look elsewhere to identify the source of Jacob’s anger.

Maybe alongside the mysterious Vincent Dalpé (Luc Bourgeois), who shot himself in front of Julie and François? As a reminder, Vincent was the patient, then the lover of Julie, who then passed it on to her colleague François. This love and career triangle camouflages nebulous things.

What emerges from this final episode of STAT’s first season is that we have to be wary of the Faubert family. Julie hid important information from the police and repeatedly attacked and lied. And the more than perfect Jacob revealed his psychopathic side in the very last scene, which aired Thursday night. It was spectacular.

After the intervention on the city bus, Jacob even said to Emmanuelle, “In my opinion, we will not be able to separate,” implying that they shared a bond for life.

To the list of notorious characters, I add the third psychiatrist in the series, Philippe (Patrick Labbé), who didn’t reveal any important details to Emmanuelle about what François was going through before he died. It’s not neat, all of that.

In the second chapter of STAT, scheduled for Radio-Canada in September, we will of course again see Rémy Girard, whom the character of Éric (Stéphane Rousseau) met briefly at a meeting of anonymous gambling addicts. It could be Eric’s father who passed the vice of gambling on to him.

Gabriel Lemaire (Jean-Nicolas Verreault), who had been in a coma since his wild and inexplicable aggression, miraculously woke up. We’ll see if he can give the cops any explanations about the bandits who brutally beat him. Another file is to be clarified next autumn.

And maybe Isabelle will continue her flirtation with Gabriel’s brother Justin (Alexandre St-Martin), because the current was really good between the two.

This first season of STAT was full of unexpected twists, spectacular medical cases and mini-investigations that we had great fun solving Monday through Thursday.

Screenwriter Marie-Andrée Labbé has created endearing and complex characters who have integrated into our daily lives and those of District 31.

I love the pugnacity of Pascal St-Cyr (Normand D’Amour), the clumsiness of Isabelle, the arrogance of Jacob and the insecurity of Marc-Olivier (Anglesh Major).

But it’s Emmanuelle, my favorite. What a fascinating character. A brilliant, ruthless, intense and 100% dedicated emergency doctor. Manu navigates between strength and vulnerability, aggressiveness and gentleness, and compassion and impatience.

And no, Manu is not a saint. Their imperfections and gray areas make them even more likeable. With her it is anything but manu militari. Add a snare hit and cymbal noise here, thanks Montreal, good evening!
