Pierre-Luc Dubois is in the spotlight

Kent Hughes will have competition. He is credited with inviting Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Bell Centre, settling there and taking part in the relaunch of the franchise.

Dubois has never hidden his desire to play for the Canadiens.

This was also confirmed by his agent Pat Brisson.

Except that we have to differentiate.

Between wanting to play for the Canadian and being able to develop further for the CH, there will be several obstacles ahead of Kent Hughes. Don’t think Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff wasn’t approached by some of his National League peers.

Dubois leaves no one indifferent. He’s a player who speaks his mind without putting on white gloves. Last year he preached no diplomacy (it’s often said that diplomacy is hypocrisy in costume) by making it clear that he would test the free-agent market without compensation at the end of his contract with the Winnipeg Jets.

This summer, his limited free agent status will force the Jets boss to make a decision. The Jets may have to trade him instead of losing him without getting anything for his services. So don’t get bogged down in the equation that Montreal would be an interesting travel destination. But Hughes has to pull a rabbit out of his hat. He will have competition.

For what ?

If you watched Tuesday night’s game between the Jets and the Vegas Golden Knights, you saw that the same Dubois still performed at a very high level during the playoffs. We have seen him several times in the Columbus Blue Jackets uniform, how he disturbed the opponent with his determination, his intensity and also his arrogance.

The player with independent skater status without compensation and sometimes with compensation chooses the target that suits him best. Does the Canadian meet all the requirements?

Kent Hughes has character when it comes to chatting with a counterpart, according to his boss, Jeff Gorton. That’s an important point. He will have to think back to his experience as an agent and now his brief experience as general manager.

surprise surprise

Parity means there are many upsets in the first round of the playoffs. The fact that the Lightning won the first game by seven goals, no one expected such an outcome, that the Seattle Kraken got their first win, and in Denver also limited the powerful attack of the Colorado Avalanche to just one goal, clearly shows that the team does not suffer any complexes. I prefer the Golden Knights to eliminate the Jets. The problem is that prior to Alberta’s lineup, they have absolutely no weight. Shall we give the “alert” signal? No, we will not jump to conclusions immediately. But there is enough material for discussion. Surprises, we record more…

discipline and leadership

The Toronto Maple Leafs should just let Michael Bunting know he’s being asked to take time off until further notice…

Said Connor McDavid after the first game against the Kings. “We have to be more disciplined. We will have to face adversity. Oddly enough, we didn’t hear that chorus during the regular schedule. In the playoffs, one thing matters most: leadership…

A friend of Sutter’s?

The list of candidates for the position of general manager of the Calgary Flames is long and very often the profile of most candidates notes that they always had a great relationship with Darryl Sutter. Are we being told that whoever fills the office of former CEO Brad Treliving must necessarily be a “friend” of Sutter’s? Treliving quit because he couldn’t stand Sutter anymore, but he didn’t engage in a power struggle with the coach because he knew he’d never have the last laugh. Craig Conroy is Flames fan favorite to succeed Treviling…

Sullivan pulls the strings

Mike Sullivan has shared his feelings with the Pittsburgh Penguins’ new owners, Fenway Sports Group, and he would not have been kind to Ron Hextall. He reportedly made a list of players the Penguins had to try and get by the trade deadline. Hextall reportedly told him that he didn’t think the skaters on the coach’s list fit the company’s ethos. Sullivan knows Stan Bowman well, and it’s easier to see why his name is at the top of the list of candidates for the vacant general manager position. Not to mention, Bowman won three Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks. Also on the list, as reported last week, is the name of Mathieu Darche. Should we be surprised? No way. And Marc Bergevin? As a friend of Mario Lemieux, many believe he could take over Hextall. But beware. Mario has been a minority shareholder in the Penguins since the team was sold. What are his powers? I understand if your name is Mario Lemieux, you’re usually listening. Except that the situation in Pittsburgh is worrying. The next generation is practically non-existent, so how do we prepare for the next few years knowing full well that Sidney Crosby, Evgeny Malkin and Kristopher Letang are aging? And can Bergevin’s return sheet really convince the new owners? …

Finally, Steve Yzerman wants the organization’s young players to progress faster, and he would have decided to clean up the decision makers of Grand Rapids’ formation, the American League…
