Netflix is secretly changing one of its packages… for the better!

The giant Netflix announced on Tuesday an upgrade to its subscription plan with advertising.

Launched last fall, Netflix’s Standard with Ads plan is available in Canada for $5.99 per month. This package, Netflix’s cheapest so far, allowed you to listen to series and movies simultaneously in 720p resolution on a single device.

Netflix has updated these terms and will finally give its subscribers access to HD 1080p video on two devices.

The streaming giant unveiled the change without fanfare in its first-quarter financial results released on Monday. The plan’s new terms will first be tested in Canada and Spain.

“We believe that these improvements will make our offer even more attractive to a larger number of consumers and will further increase the engagement of existing and new subscribers,” the company argued in its presentation of its results.

According to Netflix, the “Plan with Ads” already generates more revenue in the United States than the “Standard” plan, which costs $16.49 per month in Canada.

Note that Canada is a jurisdiction conducive to experimentation for the company that tightened the screw on Netflix account password sharing last February, while the US has yet to apply this new policy.
