Isle of the Dead: New ‘The Walking Dead’ spin-off officially announced in New York

Another new The Walking Dead spin-off is in development at AMC, set in New York City. Set to debut next year, it follows the original series’ protagonists Negan and Maggie as they fight zombies in the Big Apple.

The new series, titled Isle of the Dead, will depict Manhattan “long cut off from the mainland” filled with both the living and the dead. The first season will consist of six episodes, which will be released on AMC and AMC+.

Series stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will reprise their roles as Maggie and Negan, with series writer and co-executive producer Eli Giorne serving as showrunner. As part of the announcement, AMC released a teaser poster featuring an ominous door that reads “Don’t open. Dead Inside” against the familiar New York skyline.

“I’m delighted that Negan and Maggie’s journey continues,” Morgan said in a statement. “It’s been such a journey to walk in Negan’s shoes and I’m excited to continue his journey in New York with Lauren. Walking in an urban setting has always been this cool way, but 5th Avenue, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty? The biggest city in the world??

“The setting is amazing, but the story that Eli Giorne came up with is even better. Buckle up guys, Isle of the Dead is about to reinvent the TWD universe. Huge thanks to Dan McDermott, Scott Gimple and AMC for inviting us. come back for more… we just can’t wait.”

“Isle of the Dead” will join The Walking Dead, which is currently in the midst of airing the second part of its final season. Other spin-offs include the Fear the Walking Dead prequel, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and a planned anthology series in Tales of the Walking Dead.

Isle of the Dead will release sometime in 2023. Check out the rest of the biggest shows set to premiere in 2022 right here.
