Lioness Leah Williamson hugs her best pal Alex Scott: Friends enjoy a glass of soda in the sun just 48 hours before an injury that shattered her World Cup dream

She’s rarely been away from our TV screens lately, but sports presenter Alex Scott has managed to find time for a glass of fizz in the sunshine with her best friend Leah Williamson.

Ms Scott, holding two glasses of Prosecco, was seen giggling with another pal before the England women’s football captain joined them on Monday afternoon.

Wearing a lime green three-piece suit of Michael Kors and Nike Air Jordan trainers, the Football Focus presenter called the Lioness Ms Williamson before giving her an excited hug as she arrived at the Princess of Wales pub in Primrose Hill, north London.

Friends of the three women said they decided to have something “spontaneous” in the sunshine.

While Ms. Scott saw her sipping Prosecco, Ms. Williamson did not.

Meanwhile, a viewer said: “Alex had a real laugh soaking up the sun with his girlfriend and then along came Leah.

“Alex was delighted, she put her hand up in the air and waved her over. It certainly looked like fun in the sun.”

But her happiness was short-lived as just over 48 hours later, the England captain’s World Cup dream was in tatters after she tore her knee ligaments while playing for Arsenal in a Women’s Super League clash with Manchester United on Wednesday had torn.

The injury has ruled her out of this summer’s World Cup in Australia, which begins on July 20.

Ms Williamson wrote on social media: “I had my tears and made my peace with it the night it happened and since then I have followed the steps I was told to do my best in a nutshell help in the long run.

“Ultimately, I think it’s just my time. In the last few years alone, I’ve watched teammates conquer serious illness and adversity with the biggest smiles on their faces.

“I also feel that there are much bigger difficulties around the world and so my circumstances are just circumstances at the moment and I’ve seen a lot worse.”

Ms Scott, 38, and Ms Williamson, 26, have been best friends for more than two years after meeting in women’s football.

They are regularly seen together at show business events including the Brits in February and the GQ Awards in November.

And last summer, following England’s semi-final win at the Euros, Ms Williamson – who was hailed as one of the best players in the tournament the Lionesses went on to win – and Ms Scott were seen blowing kisses at one another while the TV presenter worked as a pundit for the BBC.

Ms. Williamson signed a major deal with Italian fashion house Gucci last year and regularly wears the label to show business parties.

She also has a lucrative endorsement deal with Nike and previously Pepsi, and released her book You Have The Power earlier this year.
