The Russian invasion of Ukraine means World War III is “probably already underway,” according to billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ekman.
“In January 2020, I had nightmares about a possible pandemic, but everyone seemed to think I was crazy. I’m having similar nightmares right now,” Ekman wrote on Saturday.
He added: “Probably the third world war has already begun, but we are in no hurry to admit it.”
Ekman, who last week urged US troops to be ready for action, said “there’s a lot more we can do before we get into a hot war with Russia.”
He said that the US “can stop the absurd purchase of oil from Russia and the financing of the war, [and] Europe may follow suit as soon as gas demand drops in the spring.”
Ackman urged Washington and European governments to equip Ukraine with advanced weapons and accurate intelligence.
“Ukrainians, with the right weapons and resources, have proven that they have what it takes to win the war if and until Putin goes nuclear,” he said.

“The reason we’re not doing more seems to be that we’re afraid of provoking Putin.”
Ekman added: “However, we have already provoked Putin by providing the Ukrainians with weapons that will enable them to succeed in this war.”
He called Putin “a lunatic” who was allowed to “occupy Georgia and Crimea without much resistance.”
“And his aspirations have only gotten stronger because we did nothing to stop him,” Ekman tweeted.

“Now we let him take Ukraine? We are at the beginning of Putin’s global aspirations. With each ‘victory’ he gains the courage to take more.”
Akman tweeted that it was a mistake for NATO countries to refrain from military action because of Russia’s arsenal of nuclear weapons.
“What do we do when [Putin] wants more?” Akman asked.
“The nuclear threat is no different when he takes over his next country, whether it’s part of NATO or not, and by then we’re in a worse strategic position.”

President Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg have already ruled out deploying troops or imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine.
But Biden vowed to defend “every inch of NATO territory with the full force of our collective might.”
Ackman tweeted: “By setting a hard line based on NATO membership alone, doesn’t that give Putin carte blanche to invade and subjugate Sweden, Finland, Cyprus, Ireland, Austria, Malta and Switzerland, and the rest of the former Soviet Union?” . ?
The billionaire tweeted that China is in a unique position to make an impact and end the crisis in Ukraine.

“The only optimistic way out of this war that I see is for China to intervene and broker a real ceasefire and settlement,” he said.
“In the settlement, the Ukrainians could agree that they would never join NATO. Russia, in turn, can withdraw and the sanctions can be lifted.”
Akman added: “Putin respects and probably fears China.”
“China can rise up on the world stage by helping resolve this crisis. There is little time left before many more 18-month-olds die.”
