The universe of The Walking Dead is getting bigger.

Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan, will star in a spin-off series set in New York that will air on AMC next year.

The six-part “Isle of the Dead” will be hosted by Eli Giorne, who was a writer and co-executive producer of The Walking Dead for several seasons and has a general agreement with AMC.

It comes as The Walking Dead is wrapping up its 11th and final season and is the latest spin-off series for the zombie franchise.

The move marks a turning point for Cohen, who first appeared on The Walking Dead as a recurring character in Season 2. Tense contract negotiations at the end of Season 8 resulted in her only appearing in a few episodes of Season 9 and leaving the series. in 2018. She returned for the Season 10 finale and the subsequent final season.

Negan Morgana joined The Walking Dead in season 6 and killed Maggie’s husband Glenn. Regardless, the two characters are currently teaming up in season 11, heading to Meridian.

Cohen and Morgan previously starred together in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where they played Batman’s parents.

In Isle of the Dead, Maggie and Negan travel through a post-apocalyptic Manhattan that has long been cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and residents who have turned New York into their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty and horror.

The series, which will air on AMC and AMC+ in 2023, will be produced by Jornet; Scott M. Gimple, director of content for The Walking Dead Universe; and Cohen and Morgan.

Back in 2019, there was talk of a Kohan spin-off.
