Singer, presenter, actress, Mélissa Bédard gives the impression of being everywhere, on screen and on stage. But Quebec will always remain, with the music and her family, the sanctuary where she finds her balance each week.
With her many commitments, Mélissa Bédard divides her life between Quebec and Montreal. She spends a maximum of three to four busy days a week in the metropolis. “But I can’t go live anywhere but Quebec,” the one, revealed in 2012, tells Star Académie.
The artist grew up in Charlesbourg, where her parents adopted her and her twin brother when she was nine months old. Both are from Haiti, where their birth mother died giving birth. She never did any research to find this family she doesn’t know about. It must be said that she was filled with loving parents who gave her everything.

When she was younger, she had won the Les Arts de la Capitale competition, also held at the Capitol, among all Quebec schools.
Mélissa has often spoken of the severe ordeal of her mother’s death in a car accident. She was 10 years old. It was her voice and song that saved her, thanks to teachers who noticed her talent and encouraged her to enter competitions. In the “Les Arts de la Capitale” competition, for example, it took first place among all schools in Quebec.
too natural?
Today, returning to Quebec with fewer commitments, the singer leaves all the space to her mother, wife and very faithful boyfriend. “We never talk about working from home,” she says, emphasizing that it’s a matter of balance with her family.
When she met her husband, Mélissa Bédard had two daughters and he had three sons. Since then, a little girl has joined the ranks of the family.
At the Clubby Bar on the 6th floor of the Capitole de Québec, where she will be performing at the weekend, the star stays true to the image she projects: that of an authentic and passionate person.
It has been criticized for being too accessible, too natural. But those are criticisms she continues to brush aside. “I’m Mélissa, she says with conviction, and I don’t have two personalities.”
thousand projects
On the work side, there was a time when the artist said no most of the time. She then opened up about her role in Can You Hear Me, where her talent as an actress was revealed. “It seems that I like everything, and I also like the freedom that is given to me,” emphasizes the artist, who appreciates the fact that the artistic milieu in Quebec has become more fragmented in recent years.
The fact remains that it is music with his fortified castle in Quebec that allows him to keep his balance. “A lot has become clear to me during the pandemic: I keep a lot inside me, but music allows me to push myself out and let myself go. I call it my meeting with the psychiatrist,” she said.
According to our interview, the singer was on her way to Montreal to attend a gala where she was supposed to be singing. A friend was driving so she could give interviews along the way.
The highway between Quebec and Montreal has a very special meaning for Mélissa Bédard. There, between the two big cities, she experienced her first anxiety attack after her experience at the Star Académie.
Since then, she has counseled and found ways to manage this performance anxiety. She also started a Facebook group, Listening, where many people work together day and night to help anxiety patients no longer feel alone.
big dreams
If there is one big dream that Mélissa Bédard would also like to fulfill, it is that of going on stage in France one day. “We would like that, but it’s a long way back and forth,” says the woman who wants to be there for her family. But yeah, we’re talking about it now, and I’m really, really strict about what I have in terms of my kids. I can’t go two weeks without seeing her.”
She also wants to learn English soon, which would allow her to “sing with her big stars” by entering a major competition like America’s Got Talent. Note for interested parties: She is looking for a teacher.
