“The two firefighters sank at this point in the river by giving them a hand,” said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokeswoman Béatrice Dorsainville.

The two pioneers were on foot when they were swept away by the current of the Gouffre River, Agent Dorsainville added. The two people who were helped by the fire brigade were taken to a safe place.

“A search structure was quickly set up yesterday to try to find her. The SQ helicopter flew over the region for much of the day. There was also the emergency response module, i.e. boats, patrol boats and various specialists. During the night, patrol officers stayed on site to rake the banks,” explains the SQ spokesman.

The search resumed very early in the morning. “Various specialists are on site. In particular, a boat is in the water in the Rivière du Gouffre sector. There are also more than twenty patrol boats and mountain bikes. Divers are also on site. There is also a drone,” says Ms. Béatrice Dorsainville.

A Canadian Forces helicopter will also be on site.

“We are trying to keep hope alive for the families of these people. Everything is implemented by the SQ and the partners, who are very present in research,” says Béatrice Dorsainville.
