Windows 11 has a notification system. The latter is not used optimally, so warnings can be useless and harmful to the environment.

You’ve probably seen warnings from the Windows Security app many times. They are regular and follow an analysis of the system without detecting any problem. what are they for The same types of notifications appear with the Weather app, some websites, and various apps. This situation is a real problem in Windows 11.

Microsoft is behind an initiative to reduce these unnecessary notifications. There is the “Concentration” mode. Its purpose is to limit sources of distraction to improve user concentration.

This affects, for example, notifications from applications such as Outlook, Edge, etc. Another approach is currently being investigated.

This is a feature called “smart opt-out”. It was discovered in a recent build of the operating system that was released as part of the Windows Insider Program. It works very simply. In the form of a notification (😊) and after analysis, it is recommended to disable notifications that encounter little interaction. Specifically: If notifications do not trigger any action during a certain period of time, they are perceived as useless and a notification with the title “Disable notifications from xxxxx?” appears.

Normally, this change should have a long-term positive effect. It will gradually allow creating a kind of blacklist of unwanted notifications. Interestingly, the approach is not new. Email filters have been using it for years. This feature should quickly find its way into the “general public” release of Windows 11. Some people mention a few months of waiting anyway.

Microsoft is also working on more comprehensive control over notifications that are considered high priority. You can override the focus mode settings. Apps are allowed to send a notification offering “Allow important notifications” to list urgent alerts in Windows 11.
