The “miracle of blood” takes place on the third of every month at 3 pm in a field on a hill near the picturesque town of Trevignano on Lake Bracciano, an hour’s drive from Rome. It always attracts hundreds of believers – or perhaps it should be said: of believers – from all over Italy: they want to be eyewitnesses when the almost human-sized statue of the Madonna, located in a light blue glass display case, starts to cry and as the tears spilled blood streaming down her cheeks. The show took place again this Wednesday, May 3. The people in the meadow looked in awe at the Madonna and then at the sky; they prayed fervently and cried, “Lord, let me be born again!”
