The First Slam Dunk: an exclusive Italian preview clip of Takehiko Inoue’s anime

In Italian cinemas on May 10th in the original version with subtitles and from May 11th to 17th in the dubbed version, the beautiful film that brings to the cinemas the cult manga of the Japanese author with many surprises. Here’s an exclusive preview of it.

For once, we come first. Indeed, Italy is the first European and Western country to release the highly anticipated film The first slam dunk the film that brings the cult manga to the cinema “Slam Dunk” directed by the same author of this comic, Takehiko Inoue.
The film will indeed in Italian cinemas as a preview on May 10th in the original subtitled version and then as an event from May 11th to 17th in Italian dubbed version, distributed by Anime Factory, a label of Plaion Pictures.
Produced by TOEI animationthe film was a huge hit in Japan, grossing about three times its gross sales Avatar – The Way of Water, and received important recognition as the best animated film of the year at the prestigious Japan Academy Film Prize 2023.
The first slam dunk it differs markedly from the television anime already adopted from Inoue’s manga: if in this case the involvement of the mangaka was marginal, here Inoue wanted to direct it personally, staying true to the original spirit of the work but also imagining it on a new way.
The film, which focuses on the character of Ryota Miyagi, thrives on a dual timeline: the interscholastic national championship final between Shohoku and Sannoh, and a series of flashbacks about the past and experiences of Ryota and his teammates.

We follow him and the boys of the team in a series of feats – between school difficulties, sporting ambitions, competitions, training sessions and games – and experience the emotions of a sport portrayed with authentic realism. A manga that has the importance of sport as an element of cohesion and character building in the background and has helped spread the passion for basketball in Japan (and beyond) and inspired several generations of viewers and critics. The fact that Sensei Inoue himself drew and wrote the manga, as well as created and directed the film, is a real guarantee for fans of the brand that all the characters, values ​​and spirit of the work have been carried over into the film and reinforced through it meticulous , realistic and immersive animation. The film was also an opportunity to delve into a character – Ryota Miyagi – who didn’t appear in the manga at the time.
