In Serbia Eight people were killed and 13 were injured in at least two shootings took place in two separate villages near the town of Mladenovac, some 60 kilometers south of the capital Belgrade, late Thursday evening. One person opened fire with an automatic weapon from a moving vehicle and fled, RTS TV reported. The escape lasted a few hours: the 21-year-old killer was later caught. A 13-year-old schoolboy killed eight of his peers and a security guard at a primary school in Belgrade on Wednesday in an attack that shook the country.

According to the authorities, a man, Uros B., who shot passers-by, is responsible for the massacre.

According to some witnesses, among the victims were a police officer, who was off duty at the time, and his sister. Although many weapons from the conflicts of the 1990s are still in circulation in Serbia, mass shootings have so far been extremely rare. Since Thursday, authorities have tightened controls and police have urged citizens to keep them safe and away from children.
