Love Island’s Maxwell Samuda speaks out about the REAL reason he split from girlfriend Olivia Hawkins just weeks after the end of the winter series
Love Island’s Maxwell Samuda has finally opened up about the real reason behind his split from girlfriend Olivia Hawkins.
The pair bonded during that winter’s series but left the season just days before the finals.
They decided to go their separate ways just weeks after returning to the UK, with some program fans accusing them of having a showmance.
However, Maxwell, 24, insisted they simply drifted apart after returning from South Africa, where the show was filmed, insisting “other things” diverted his attention from their union.
He told the Murad Merali Podcast: “The main thing I would say about the whole situation, when you’re at the villa and even just after the villa but still together in South Africa, it’s a very different environment.

“All you have to focus on during this time is each other and just being on holiday together, and it’s pretty easy to have a great time when you’re on vacation.
“But once you get home and all these other things are going on, grab your attention and focus.”
Maxwell added that he’s not sure he’s seen the pair together far in the future, explaining, “It really gives you an opportunity to look at it and consider whether there’s really longevity in this situation or there is we connected and really got into it, but out in the real world we’re just not sure if it has the same longevity.
It comes after Maxwell and Olivia, 27, became the second couple from this year’s winter series to split just weeks after leaving the villa in March.
The ring girl and finance student reportedly went their separate ways after “naturally growing apart.”
It came after Casey O’Gorman and Rosie Seabrook became the first couple from the Winter 2023 series to split.
Olivia and Maxwell reportedly had a conversation about their relationship and decided to separate, but remained “on good terms.”
A source told The Sun: “Although it was rumored they had already split, just yesterday they had a proper conversation about where their relationship was going and they both agreed the writing was on the wall.

“They had fun while it lasted and there are no negative feelings at all, but he’s obviously gone to Mexico and Olivia has been focused on work projects. They grew apart, of course.”
The pair were released from the South African villa just before the grand finale and left the show as a couple, only to later appear on the reunion show together.
Just days before their split, Olivia denied that she and Maxwell had secretly gone their separate ways, insisting they were “literally fine.”
She told FUBAR Radio, “We’re doing absolutely fine. Even though I was on the show, I’m still a private person. I’m not the type of person to upload everything we do. We went out for lunch the other day.”
