Armadillo mating (Photo: Reproduction/Icas Wild Animal Conservation Institute)
Here’s something you don’t see every day literally! This Friday (5), video of a mating armadillo swept the internet. The reason could be the fact that the act was the first recording of the intimate act, but what really caught the attention of netizens was the size of the male member.
According to Icas Wild Animal Conservation Institute, the project had been looking for giant armadillos since 2010 but had never encountered a reproductive act. “Because it is a nocturnal animal with very discreet habits, our team was never able To a mating,” the specialists explained.
The site also revealed that the animal has one of the largest penistobody size ratios of any land mammal, averaging 30cm. According to scholars, the length is meant to “reach” the woman’s reproductive organs. See:

π¨ Rare record!
Our Giant Armadillo Project has been running since 2010 and to date we had never seen such a record. The video (that is circulating on WhatsApp) shows the reproduction of a couple and as far as we know this is the 1st recording of this very rare moment 1/5+π¬π§π pic.twitter.com/4oxNTqlpODβ Icas Institute for Wildlife Conservation (@IcasWild) May 4, 2023
“After that, the females only have a calf every three to four years, with an average gestation period of five months, which is why it’s also very difficult to film moments of copulation,” notes project coordinator Arnaud Desbiez. to g1. The video received over 1.7 million views.
Despite the scholarly shock of the historical moment, social media profiles had a lot of fun with the image. “I’ve been learning all my life that the armadillo has 4 legs and now I found out there are 5,” joked one user. “You can’t have intimate moments in this country anymore,” sneered another. A third even claimed that the video was meant to be posted at dawn. Hahahaha Check out more reactions:
