Munich/Hamburg – Customers of the sushi restaurant “Henssler & Henssler” have to pay extra for a menu over 40 euros. The restaurant is run by famous chef Steffen Henssler and his father Werner in Hamburg. Due to rising energy costs, the duo decided to charge their guests an energy fee. Which now caused problems, which some posted on the Internet.

Steffen Henssler is known, among other things, for his Vox cooking show “Grill den Henssler”, on which Oliver Pocher was a guest. The well-known TV chef opened the sushi restaurant “Henssler & Henssler” together with his father Werner Henssler (72) in 2001 in the Hamburg Fish Market. Since then, many guests have flocked to the restaurant to try Henssler’s unusual sushi creations.

According to an image report, there have been repeated complaints about this in the recent past. Photos of receipts said to have come from the restaurant are also circulating online. A receipt from a customer was found on Facebook who, according to the tabloid report, had to pay 7.50 euros for a family dinner with five people. An outrage for many sushi lovers. But Henssler Senior sees it differently. Werner Henssler explained to Bild that this was a necessary step: “Now we pay more than double the energy costs than before. I have a cost increase of more than 100 percent.”

The father of celebrity chef Steffen Henssler makes it clear that guests who don’t want to pay the flat rate are not welcome at his restaurant: “If you don’t like it, you don’t have to come anymore.” the claim of theft by some guests. Werner Henssler complained that the “failed energy policy of the green government” was to blame for this unusual step. He doesn’t see himself paying for it by paying large sums for the gas needed for cooking. “I’m in the restaurant for over twelve hours, from morning to night, and I work hard. I don’t do it out of boredom, but because I want to earn a few cents,” says the 72-year-old.

Opinions on flat rate power differ online. While some point out that €1.50 is a piece of cake compared to the sushi restaurant’s horrific prices, others are harshly critical of Henssler’s move. “In the end, it always hits the poorest. Werner, I hope no one comes too!!!” said one angry user on Twitter. Some comment that the prices at the Hamburg restaurant are exorbitant, even without a flat fee. “But the apple spritzer is 5.50 euros. I wouldn’t even go to the bathroom,” wrote one Twitter user wryly with laughing emojis.
The star chef restaurant is certainly not cheap. As you can see from the sushi restaurant’s evening menu, a main menu costs between 34 and 44 euros. The most expensive dish is a heather beef fillet cooked on a lava grill with edamame seeds and teriyaki sauce. In addition to Werner Henssler, his other sons Rocky (24) are also involved in the restaurant as a service manager and Toni (29) as head chef. Steffen Henssler, who, in addition to her gigs in the “Henssler’s Fast Number” video series, provides instructions for quick dishes like crispy bacon cheeseburgers, is a silent partner. (tt)
