THE think tank The Initiative of the Century persuaded Ottawa to make Canada a country of 100 million people by the end of the century. The federal immigration thresholds are already being adjusted in this regard.
This scenario will result in either Quebec’s linguistic and demographic demise or its political marginalization.
Scenario 1. Quebec decides to increase its immigration thresholds in order to maintain its political weight in the federation. Small problem: it is already unable to frank and integrate the immigrants it is currently receiving.

If Montreal and Laval have been anglicized for 20 years, it’s largely because of our immigration thresholds. Raising the thresholds will not only lead to a demographic decline in the historical French-speaking majority, but quite simply to a collapse of French.
In other words, to maintain its political clout, Quebec would have to sacrifice its cultural and linguistic identity.
Bad deal right?
Scenario 2. Quebec, aware of the suicidal nature of this massive immigration policy, decides not to raise the thresholds.
Then he will see how his political weight in the association gradually melts away. In the end it will only be an insignificant province. And what’s more, its cultural and linguistic identity will eventually disappear. But it will still take a while.
Both of these scenarios condemn Quebec to assimilation.

There will still be a territory called Quebec. But it will no longer be that of the Quebecers. Unless we call “Quebec People” an Anglicized population dominated by a multicultural ideology, where the historic French-speaking majority will be no more than a remnant community. We can always play with words.
Of course there will still be francophones in the regions. They will represent nothing more than the ever-dwindling trace of a dying people, made a minority at home by neglect and cowardice and then strangers at home.
