You’ll see Charles being crowned in a Christian ceremony dating back 1,000 years on a day dripping with glorious pageantry.

It will also spotlight Britain’s place on the world stage in Britain’s largest ceremonial military operation since Sir Winston Churchill’s state funeral in 1965, with 7,000 soldiers and women marching with the King and Queen.

A sumptuous royal blue carpet – chosen to accentuate the majestic red, gold and purple robes of the King and Queen – adorned the podium in the Coronation Theatre.

Stunning flowers in red, burgundy and yellow gold covered the top of the ornate gold high altar.

A smiling Dean of Westminster in his bright red clerical robes was seen hurrying to carry the holy oil for anointing from the altar, through the chancel, down the length of the abbey, holding the ornate silver vessel in both hands.

7,000 servicemen and women will accompany Their Majesties at today’s coronation, making it the largest ceremonial event in the country since 1953.

In fact, the coronation procession from the Abbey after the ceremony is so large that by the time the King and Queen arrive at Buckingham Palace, the rearguard will have reached Downing Street just a mile away.

More than 100 million people around the world are set to witness the historic first coronation of a British monarch in 70 years – with an estimated 2 million taking to the streets of London to watch the story unfold.

The monarch has been an heir since he was three years old and is now ready to finally face his destiny day with the woman he loves by his side.

His family, including Prince Andrew and Princess Anne, enjoyed dinner at the Mayfair club Oswald’s on Friday night. Mike and Zara Tindall were out until 2am.

Prince Harry flew in from Los Angeles for his 24-hour trip. It emerged on Friday night that he was relegated to the third row of the Abbey with other non-working royals.
