Manufactured in the United States since 1946, the Alumacraft range of boats is now available in Quebec, more specifically at Dion Sports in Saint-Raymond.

“We are very pleased to be able to offer amateurs this new boat line here. This aluminum boat manufacturer was founded more than 75 years ago in Minneapolis, USA,” explains Carl Dussault, Director of Marine Division, Dion Sports.
In 2018 it was acquired by BRP. Alumacraft is the division for fishing boats and multipurpose boats.
“In the transaction, BRP also bought the pontoon manufacturing division, the industry-renowned Manitou company. Therefore, it is natural for us to have these products in our range, because we are BRP dealers and proud to be so for a long time. »
If that name doesn’t mean much to Quebec fans elsewhere, that’s another story.
“This brand is extremely popular in English Canada and especially in the United States. It’s a great product. Having a good boat with a sturdy construction represents the best value for money. We can start with the 2XB hull, a double plating hull. It is made from a single sheet of double-lined aluminum for all their boats. That means double the resistance and protection,” continues Mr. Dussault.

In 2024, with BRP’s new motorization, the submersible, it will be possible to add a platform at the stern of fishing boats to add 25 cubic feet of space.
DRY FEET
The construction of the boat ensures that the water is thrown outwards and we therefore stay dry throughout the trip.
“This quiet hull will keep us dry in any conditions we may encounter while sailing. These boats are fast and always very responsive when they open the wave so we don’t get wet. »
To go further in explaining the water discharge, Philippe-Étienne Légaré, responsible for the customer boating experience, specifies that “there are deflection ribs on each side that force the water discharge downwards. The aquadynamic hull design also makes for a more stable, maneuverable boat. »

ACCESSORIES AND FUTURE
Anglers like to have lots of gear and systems to help them in their fishing practice.
“The boats are equipped with a complete mounting system, whether for rod holders, sonar, downriggers and more, called the Alumatrack. Everything is built into the hull of the boat. I have never seen this type of system on any other boat,” says Carl Dussault.
Boats are currently available for the current season. They are equipped with Mercury engines.
What Carl Dussault is most excited about is what the future holds for them with Alumacraft and Manitou. “BRP’s plans include a small closure of the plant to modernize […]. Thus applies to 2024 [les bateaux] Trophy and Competitor will be equipped with new Rotax engine technology. »
BRP has also developed new outboard engine technology.
“It’s completely submerged in water, it’s revolutionary,” Mr. Dussaut continues. This novelty allows for much more space and even the addition of a platform above the engine that adds 25 cubic feet of space for swimming or fishing. Available next year, these 115hp or 150hp engines will ensure the performance and smoothness of the power steering system and throttle control. It is BRP’s return to the production of outboard motors for all types of boats in the Alumacraft range. This motorization principle already exists for Manitou pontoons. »
The first fishing boats with this engine will be available in spring 2024. “I know it’s early but I want anglers to know it’s coming. I’m willing to meet people and explain this revolutionary technology to them,” says the director.
In the meantime, you can discover the very particular design of these boats with the few models available in the store.
You will find that these are sturdy and affordable boats and rowing boats. There are vehicles that drive straight to the engine and others that have center consoles.
In conclusion, Carl Dussault had this message for the amateurs: “We wish you an excellent fishing season and who knows, maybe with an Alumacraft boat! »
