Gerard Gallant leaves Rangers

The New York Rangers and Gerard Gallant have agreed to end their relationship.

This was reported by New York Post reporter Larry Brooks on Saturday afternoon. The news was later confirmed by Rangers.

Earlier this week, the New York team was eliminated in the first round by the New Jersey Devils in seven games.

Gallant stayed at the top of the Blueshirts for just two seasons.

He helped the team advance to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Tampa Bay Lightning last year.

A native of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Rangers signed in 2021 after winning a gold medal with the Canadian team at the Ice Hockey World Championships.

Gallant was the head coach of three other teams in the National Hockey League: the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Florida Panthers, and the Vegas Golden Knights.

He led the Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup Finals in their maiden NHL season in 2017-18.
