Oklahoma wins Game 3, defeating Oklahoma State in the Bedlam Series
The Oklahoma Sooners secured victory in the Bedlam Series on Sunday with a 5-1 win over OSU. The win extends their winning streak to 41 games to wrap up the regular season. Alex Storako threw a full game for the Sooners, surpassing the 1,000 career strikeout mark. She only allowed one run on six hits with four Ks that day.
Grace Lyons, the senior OU captain, made it big today with three RBI, two goals and a run made. The Cowgirls struggled to gain offensive momentum for much of the weekend and were unable to run across the board until the sixth inning of Sunday’s game. However, it’s possible that Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will face off again next weekend in the Big 12 conference tournament. The Sooners have already secured part of the title with their 12th championship of the regular season.
OU 5-1 OSU-B6 | OSU is on the board
The Cowgirls are finally on the board after receiving offensive production at the end of the sixth. Cheyenne Factor grabbed her second hit of the day to set up a runner and Micaela Wark doubled down the right field line to end the points drought. The rally ended there, however, when Storako picked up the game’s fourth K to catch Morgan Wynne looking and end the inning.
The Cowgirls will make a pitching change and go to the top of seventh – handing the ball to freshman Kyra Aycock, who really scored in Game 2.
OU5-0OSU-T6 | Sooners pin another run
The lead is now 5-0 as the Sooners added another insurance run atop the sixth. This time it was a sac fly from Grace Lyons to hit Coleman, who had been hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. The Cowgirls only have six outs left to be able to move something offensively.
OU 4-0 OSU-T5 | Alynah Torres hits the 2-RBI double
Oklahoma pinned two more runs atop the fifth. Torres hit a two-RBI double to send more runs across home plate.
Another thing worth noting is that Alex Storako not only kept the Cowgirls scoreless through four innings, but also racked up 1,000 career strikeouts.
OU 2-0 OSU-T3 | Grace Lyons brings OU into play
The Sooners take a 2-0 lead early in the top third. Jayda Coleman started with a single and Cydney Sanders made a walk before Grace Lyons hit a double and hit two runs.
Starting lineups for Sunday’s series finale
Alex Storako has the starting circle for Oklahoma today and takes on Lexi Kilfoyl for Sunday’s starting pitching matchup. Below are both starting lineups ahead of Sunday’s series finale.
Oklahoma rallies from behind to earn a 4-2 win in Game 2 of the Bedlam Series
The Oklahoma Sooners clinched their 40th straight win of the season after beating Oklahoma State 4-2 from behind. The Sooner offense came alive at the top of seventh after being kept scoreless through six – Tiare Jennings delivered in the big moment with a two-RBI double to take the lead for the first time all night. Nicole May went 5.2 innings for OU, but it was freshman Kierston Deal who got the clutch late in the game.
Kyra Aycock was fantastic in the circle for Oklahoma State – she kept OU scoreless through six. They even got back to her at the top of seventh after ace Kelly Maxwell gave up three runs and she scored the needed final. But the offense wasn’t able to produce enough runs to keep up with the powerful OU offense and the Sooners have now won the series.
The Bedlam series continues Sunday at 3 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+ with Game 3.
OU 4-2 OSU-T7 | Tiare Jennings delivers with a 2-RBI double to take the lead
You can literally never count the Sooners out. Freshman Jocelyn Erickson got things going with a double down the right field line before Avery Hodge halved the deficit with an RBI single. The run was enough to force OSU to make a pitching change and put their ace Kelly Maxwell in play at the top of seventh.
From then on, OU kept it going. Maxwell grabbed a big K on Jayda Coleman on the first out, but Tiare Jennings defeated her with a huge two-RBI double in the next matchup to take the lead. Cydney Sanders then hit another RBI single to give the Sooners a 4-2 advantage. The Sooners showed no sign of slowing down against Maxwell, and a few baserunners later, OSU handed the ball BACK to freshman Aycock, who handled offense well for most of the game. Aycock rallied the final out to end the inning, but the Sooners are now in the driver’s seat after trailing the entire game. The Cowgirls have another shot in the bottom of the seventh.
OU 0-2 OSU-B6 | Cowgirls add an insurance run
Taylor Tuck is having quite a night. With a runner on and two outs and two strikes, she came through with her second RBI of the game to add a much-needed insurance run for the Cowgirls. She has three hits on the night and only two RBI so far. OU head coach Patty Gasso decided to take out Nicole May and go deal with freshman Kierston. Deal knocked out the nearest batter to end the inning.
The Sooners have not been disfellowshipped since the 2019 WCWS against Alabama. They scored in 197 games straight after that. OSU’s Kyra Aycock will be back in circles to try and finish the job.
OU 0-1 OSU-T4 | Aycock throws another 1-2-3 inning
No score update here, but freshman OSU pitcher, Kyra Aycock, has now pitched back-to-back 1-2-3 innings against the Sooners. Remarkable, yes, as this is the most dangerous crime in the country. And notable because the cowgirls fought the most in the circle last night. OSU holds the 1-0 lead towards the end of the fourth, but they still need to get the bats further ahead.
OU0-1OSU-B2 | OSU takes an early 1-0 lead
The Cowgirls are first on the board in Game 2 – Tallen Edwards ripped a three-pointer down the right field line before Taylor Tuck, who was 2-0 yesterday, sent her home. That was Nicole May’s first run since mid-April and the second time OSU took an early lead over Oklahoma. Let’s see if they can hold it and go to the top of the third.
Lineups for game 2
Take a look at the starting lineups for Game 2. The Sooners start with Nicole May in the circle after Jordy Bahl pitched a full seven innings Friday night. OSU goes with Kyra Aycock.
Oklahoma wins Game 1 of the Bedlam Series with an 8-3 win over OSU
The Sooners hit eight runs on 10 with a couple of homers to win Game 1 of the Bedlam series. Despite falling behind early on, Cydney Sanders hit a three-run shot to regain the lead and they never looked back. Jordy Bahl picked up her 15th win of the season and threw her 10th seven-inning game of the year. She went in after giving up three runs early and not allowing another run after the first inning. She ended up having eight strikeouts with just five hits allowed.
The Sooners extended their winning streak to 39 games this season and have now won 30 of the last 32 games in the series against OSU. The win was just another example of how dominant this OU team is in all facets of the game.
The Cowgirls looked alive early on as Chyenne Factor hit a triple bombshell to get things going. but the bats fought their way down the track. The two teams will face off again in Game 2 of the series at 5 p.m. Eastern on ESPN on Saturday.
OU 8-3 OSU-T7 | Oklahoma adds a little more surefootedness
The Sooners are now 8-3 on their way to the bottom of seventh place with a five-run cushion. Tiare Jennings knocked in a run with a single and freshman Jocelyn Erickson came in for a pinch hit and sent another run left to center with a double. Jordy Bahl is going to go back in circle now to try to finish this thing.
OU 6-3 OSU-T6 | Brito starts an HR ๐
Alyssa Brito just kicked the ball into the parking lot. Back to the food trucks, commentators added. The solo bombshell made this a 6-3 game that transitioned into the bottom of the sixth.
Check out this tape measure, her 13th homer of the year:
OU 5-3 OSU-T5 | Oklahoma attaches itself to another
The Sooners continued another run at the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 5-3. Grace Lyons doubled, followed by a single from Rylie Boone to set up two runners. Alynah Torres then took an RBI with a single through the right side.
Jordy Bahl has settled in circle for OU since the first inning. She now has five Ks and only three hits served through 4.1 innings.
OU 4-3 OSU-T1 | Cydney Sanders goes to the yard to put the Sooners back on ๐
We had another three-run homer in back-to-back innings, but this time to put OU back on top. Rylie Boone got things going for Oklahoma with a single through the right touchline, Coleman was hit by a pitch and Tiare Jennings got a fielders choice before Sanders hit one from the park. The Sooners clearly don’t like chasing.
OU 1-3 OSU-B1 | Chyenne Factor hits triple bomb
The cowgirls have taken the lead! Jordy Bahl walked with both Rachel Becker and Kiley Naomi but managed two outs before Factor stepped onto the plate. Factor no doubt hit for her fourth homer of the season to give the Cowgirls a 3-1 early lead. The Cowgirls pulled another walk and then Morgan Wynne hit one from the left field wall to put the runners in second and third place, but Bahl got the K on the next at-bat to end the inning.
OU1-0OSU-T1 | Kelly Maxwell walks in a run
The Sooners took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Maxwell went on a run with loaded bases. But the Cowgirls avoided serious damage as Grace Lyons flew out of the inning for the final time. Maxwell came out strong with a big strikeout on Jayda Coleman after falling behind in the count. But then he allowed a single and two walks before walking on the inning’s sole run. So far, she’s been struggling to find the zone but managed to get out of the inning with just one run allowed against that fatal OU offense.
Lineups for Game 1
Here are the lineups for Game 1 of the Bedlam series. We’ll see both teams’ respective aces circled, with OU’s Jordy Bahl and OSU’s Kelly Maxwell. Get ready for good.
Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State Softball Series Preview
We should have a great Bedlam Series matchup this year. It’s not only a legendary rivalry, but also a top 10 showdown between the Oklahoma Sooners and the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowgirls.
First, let’s dive into the Sooners, who have been nearly untouchable for the past 10 weeks. They have just one loss of the season against Baylor and have since effortlessly avenged that loss with three shutout wins against the Bears. Back-to-back national champions have an incredibly loaded lineup from top to bottom, with four players hitting over .400 and five hitting 10 or more homers. Jayda Coleman leads the team with a .454 average and 13 bombs, and Tiare Jennings is right behind her. I’ll get to the pitching staff below, but the arms are as good as NCAA softball gets.
This team is hard to beat on paper and obviously not many have figured out how to do it. In their only loss against Baylor in February, the bats got cold. But that loss raised a beast that we saw shortly after when the Sooners were absolutely demolished back then โ no. 1 UCLA 14-0 in a run rule win next weekend. When it comes to dominating literally every sport, I would argue that Oklahoma softball takes the cake.
But OSU isn’t short of talent this season. They are guided by Kelly Maxwell in the circle, who relies heavily on her ability to beat the majority of batters. Rachel Becker Headlines on offense with a .462 average, and Kiley Naomi leads by 10 homers.
The Cowgirls have lost seven of their last nine games, including four in extra innings. OSU lost its last game Wednesday in unrated North Texas and went 2-1 with Texas Tech last weekend after being swept by Texas last weekend. So if there’s one thing this team needs going into the postseason, it’s a few more wins. The rivalry should be an added factor, and likely an added motivator from an OSU team that has lost a few heartthrobs lately. So I’m really expecting a good one. No team is untouchable, let’s see if the cowgirls can pull it off.
pitching comparison
Oklahoma’s pitching staff is absolutely terrifying. Their .80 ERA team ERA is the lowest in the nation and a full half run short of the next team. The Cowgirls have one of the nation’s best pitchers in Maxwell, who has up to 180 strikeouts this season with a low .139 opposing batting average. But the Sooners have three untouchable arms. You hear a ton over Jordy Bahl And Alex Storakbut beyond that you would look at each other Nicole May‘s stat line? She has an ERA of 0.43 and over 100 punchouts. It’s crazy how good this Sooners pitching staff is.
