An American rapper who, without warning and without censorship, shared video of a childbirth on Instagram to raise awareness of Black mothers’ health has shocked several fans since Sunday.
“The most beautiful thing on earth is the gift of life,” Kevin Gates wrote in his Instagram story, showing a black woman from behind, standing, giving birth at home.
While some netizens welcomed the move, believed to reflect Black Maternal Health Week held in late April, others were shocked to see the images without warning, according to multiple media outlets.

“Don’t look at Kevin Gates’ Instagram story. Believe me,” one user tweeted in all caps in a post that has been viewed more than 14.9 million times.
Black women are three times more likely to die from complications during pregnancy in the United States than white women, according to White House data.
“Was it a little descriptive? Yes. But people are constantly spreading videos and pictures of active shooters, dead bodies and pornography, but this is one that sends everyone to the abyss? replied another user.
