Fatal Collision in Marieville: A Tragic Hike for a Mother and Her Daughter

A bad maneuver by a 79-year-old motorist could be the cause of the violent collision that killed a motorcyclist and seriously injured his daughter in Montérégie on Sunday evening.

“Motorcycling was a big part of his life. I know his daughter has been his whole life,” said Anne-Marie Bourgeois on Monday, whose father was Danielle Cormier’s best friend.

Late Sunday evening, after the sun had set, the 57-year-old rode a motorcycle with her daughter Daisy Léa St-Germain near Marieville.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., the motorcycle violently collided with a vehicle traveling westbound on Route 112, which would have cut them off by a left turn at Chemin des Roseaux.

Under the force of the impact, the two residents of Waterloo were thrown from the racing car. The motorcyclist was then hit by another vehicle, which Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said was unable to avoid him.

Ms Cormier’s death was noted on the spot while her 22-year-old passenger, who was taken to hospital, was still in critical condition on Monday. She suffered significant injuries.

According to SQ, neither speed nor alcohol would be involved in this case.

“For what [le conducteur] landed on the other side of the lane? It’s always nebulous,” says Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, sergeant at the SQ.

The hypothesis currently favored by the authorities is that the driver made a bad maneuver.

Still in shock, investigators had not found him as of Monday morning. His passenger suffered minor injuries.

During this ongoing investigation, the driver should be required to have “at least” a roadworthiness test to try to determine the exact circumstances that led to this fatal collision.

resilient woman

Even if the relatives of the mother-daughter duo were worried about Ms. St-Germain’s state of health, they only had good words for the fifty-year-old who died.

“She was generous and helpful. Anne-Marie Bourgeois launched her as a woman who goes through life and who, despite the hardships, keeps going. She was there for my father over the last few years [de sa maladie].”

“She was a caring, generous, strong woman with great resilience,” added her sister Chantale Cormier, 46.
