MONTREAL – Actor Rémi Goulet will play Gilles Villeneuve in Daniel Roby’s film about the Quebec Formula 1 legend.
Production company Christal Films also announced Monday that Rosalie Bonenfant will play the pilot’s wife, Joann Villeneuve, in the film, which has been funded by Telefilm Canada and SODEC in association with Bell Media / Crave.
Rémi Goulet, 26, has starred in the films Living at 100 miles per hour (2018) by Louis Bélanger and Junior Major (2017) by Éric Tessier. Most recently, he was Pierre-Luc Funk’s brother in the television series “Forever more one day”.
Filming for the film about Gilles Villeneuve is scheduled to start next winter, for the snowmobile scenes we suspect, and to continue next year. The film’s screenplay was written by Daniel Roby and co-director Guillaume Lonergan (“Audrey Is Back”) in “a collaboration with the Villeneuve family.”
Daniel Roby had already shot “Louis Cyr: The Strongest Man Alive” for Christal Films ten years ago.
Christal Films has also produced several biographical films over the past twelve years, including Gerry (Boulet), Louis Cyr and Confessions about the killer Gérald Gallant. Producer Christian Larouche is also currently developing film projects about Guy Lafleur and Diane Dufresne.
Ferrari team star Gilles Villeneuve died on May 8, 1982, 41 years ago today, in an accident during qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix.
