Montreal’s Lance Stroll failed to perform miracles at Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix, finishing 12th.
Stroll started from 18th place due to a difficult qualifying day on Saturday. He was not in the top 10 on the grid for the first time this season.
Climbing a few more rungs, he crossed the finish line less than two seconds behind the last rider to score at least a point, Kevin Magnussen.
The afternoon went well again for Fernando Alonso, the other member of the Aston Martin squad.
The veteran climbed onto the third step of the podium. Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen (1st) and Sergio Pérez (2nd) completed the top three.
Not like last year for Alonso
Alonso also threw flowers at his Quebec teammate before the start of the race in an interview with Sky Sports.
The 41-year-old athlete was happy to have a more cooperative teammate than Esteban Ocon, with whom he played at Alpine in 2022.
“[Stroll] is a driver that I first perceive as a teammate, as we had proof at the Baku Grand Prix, Alonso started. We talked about tire economics […] and he said: “I will not try to overtake Fernando”.
“Last year it was the opposite, or almost. I was always the first target for my teammates. It wasn’t good for the team.”
Alonso obviously feels at home with Aston Martin. He finished in the top 4 in the first five races of the season.
