It seems Sharp has decided to make us salivate by showing us what we can’t have. On the menu: a 1-inch sensor, a Leica Summicron lens and a 2,000-nit IGZO OLED screen. only that !

To give you an idea of the beast, the Aquos R8 Pro sports a 6.6-inch 120Hz OLED Pro IGZO display, a resolution of 2730 x 1260 pixels and a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits. The main camera hasa 1-inch, 47.2-megapixel sensor and a Leica Summicron lens with an aperture of f/1.9 and a focal length of 19mm. Sharp has even shifted the vice by incorporating a 14-channel spectral sensor for even more accurate color representation.

On the performance side, the Sharp Aquos R8 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, accompanied by 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 flash storage. The selfie camera has a 12.6 MP sensor and the battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. The smartphone is also IPX8-certified and thus guarantees water resistance.

Sharp plans to launch the Aquos R8 Pro in Japan in July, but details on pricing and possible international availability are still a mystery. So if you’re ready to travel to Japan to get your hands on this incredible smartphone, get your suitcases and passport ready. For others it is enough to dream and nurture the hope that one day other manufacturers will also be inspired by one of the last Japanese engineering giants.
