The line up for the first semi final of Eurovision 2023

The countdown is on, tonight the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 starts. In fact, the first semi-final will be played at the Liverpool Arena in Liverpool, conducted by Hannah Waddingham, Julia Sanina and Alesha Dixon (and commented for Italy by Mara Maionchi and Gabriele Corsi).

This year’s edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is the first since 1980 not to be hosted by the reigning Siegerland: in fact, Ukraine, which triumphed in 2022 with “Stefania” by the Kalush Orchestra, had to forgo hosting the musical demonstration due to the ongoing war. Therefore, the runner-up was chosen as the host country, the UK, which is also among the Big 5 (which – having been the first to provide economic support to the EBU when the ESC was formed – have legitimate access to the final stages of the tender).

The first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will see 15 countries compete (chosen by the public, the juries, France, Germany and Italy). The top ten classifieds qualify for the final on Saturday, May 13th.
