Burgenland: 160 years of the Red Cross celebrated in Eisenstadt Eisenstadt

The Burgenland Red Cross celebrated 160 years of the Red Cross on World Red Cross Day (May 8) with guests and tributes

EISENSSTADT. In Burgenland, there are 4,000 people – 3,500 volunteers, 260 full-time staff and about 180 people providing community service and 60 graduates of the volunteer social year – who work for the Red Cross in various areas of service.

Guests from politics and business

The festive ceremony at the Burgenland regional association in Eisenstadt was attended by guests of honor from politics and business. State Councilors Leo Schneemann and Astrid Eisenkopf, as well as State Parliament Speaker Verena Dunst and Mayor Thomas Steiner stressed the importance of organizing aid.

On the occasion of the 160th anniversary, President Friederike Piringer led the history of the Red Cross, emphasized the importance of the principles (humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, willingness, unity and universality) and praised the great work of 4,000 Red Cross members Burgenland Red Cross:

“On the occasion of World Red Cross Day, I would like to thank all our staff in Burgenland from the bottom of my heart for their extraordinary commitment. Together, with the power of humanity and out of love for people, we are there for all those in need our help, even in difficult times. A big thank you to our supporting members and sponsors, who make our important work in Burgenland possible through their financial support! I am particularly happy about the great cooperation with all blue light and emergency organizations , as well as communities, the state and all important institutions.
