15-year NBA veteran and ESPN analyst JJ Redick interviewed this week for the Toronto Raptors coaching job, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

According to sources, Redick was part of an initial round of interviews and recently met with franchise executives in Toronto. Since retiring as a player in 2021, he has been a target of several teams, including the Boston Celtics, as an assistant coach.

Sources say Redick is one of more than a dozen candidates who have spoken with the Raptors in an extensive search process. ESPN recently reported that Toronto was given permission to interview several candidates, including Golden State’s Kenny Atkinson, Milwaukee’s Charles Lee, Phoenix’s Kevin Young, San Antonio’s Mitch Johnson, Sacramento’s Jordi Fernandez, Memphis’s Darko Rajakovic and Becky Hammon, coach of the Las Vegas Aces. According to sources, the Raptors’ current assistant, Adrian Griffin, is also a candidate for interview for the position.

Toronto parted ways with coach Nick Nurse on April 21. The Raptors finished this season 41-41 before losing to the Chicago Bulls in a 9-10 game in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament.

Redick averaged 12.8 points per game in 15 NBA seasons with six teams: Orlando, Milwaukee, the LA Clippers, Philadelphia, New Orleans and Dallas. He was Duke’s 2006 NCAA National Player of the Year.
