Box Office Results: Poor start in Quebec for To Love Again, the new film starring Celine Dion

There was no “Céline Dion” effect in Quebec for the film love again. Like across North America, the romantic comedy, in which the Quebec diva plays herself, got off to a disappointing start at the provincial box office last weekend.

According to Cinéac agency, Aimer à nouveau (Love Again) grossed just $72,571 in three days in Quebec theaters. The Jim C. Strouse-directed film, which opened on 78 screens across the province last Friday, fetched a low average price of $930 per screen last weekend and finished 4th at the Quebec box office.

It was the superhero film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that took #1 at the provincial box office in three days, grossing $1.3 million.

Keep in mind that “Loving Again” also had disappointing results at the North American box office last weekend. The comedy, starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan, has been shown in more than 2,700 theaters and has grossed just $2.4 million in theaters in Canada and the United States.

“Loving Again” tells the story of a heartbreaking journalist who has to write a portrait about Celine Dion and asks her for help to meet a young woman who has moved on from the death of her fiancé. The film’s soundtrack features five new songs from the Quebec diva.
