The prospect of Canadian Joshua Roy, QMJHL Personality of the Year

Montreal Canadiens junior Joshua Roy won the Paul Dumont Trophy, awarded to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Personality of the Year.

Selected by the Habs in the fifth round, 150th overall, of the 2021 National League Draft, Roy was “an excellent representative of the league, particularly at the international level,” as we recalled in a press release on Wednesday. After recording 46 goals and 53 assists (99 points) in 55 games for the Sherbrooke Phoenix, he also represented Canada at the World Junior Championships and helped his team win the gold medal for the second straight year. He also provided an assist for the winning goal.

The QMJHL also recalled the many media inquiries Roy responded to that year. He participated in “press interviews, autograph sessions and promotional events”.

The Paul Dumont Trophy recognizes an individual who makes a positive impact and enables the league to maintain a positive image. Sidney Crosby, Thomas Chabot, Dominique Ducharme, Jonathan Huberdeau and Kristopher Letang have previously received this award, named in honor of the founder of Tournoi International de Hockey Pee-Wee de Québec and former President of the LHJMQ.

Phoenix head coach and general manager Stéphane Julien and his Gatineau Olympiques counterpart Louis Robitaille were the other two finalists.
