Former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin and her husband Markus Räikkönen have filed for divorce after nearly three years of marriage. The 37-year-old Social Democrat and her longtime partner shared this in their Instagram stories on Wednesday. Marin and Raikkonen were married in the summer of 2020 after being together for around 16 years.
They met when they were 18-year-old students. They have a daughter together, who is now five. They are grateful for 19 years together and their beloved daughter, they wrote. “We continue to be best friends, close and loving parents.”
Despite the gains, Marin and his Social Democrats only came third in Finland’s parliamentary elections in early April. Conservative winner Petteri Orpo is currently leading government talks to form a centre-right coalition. Marin will remain in office until the new government is formed. She came to power in late 2019 as the youngest prime minister in the world at the time.
