After announcing that he had just given birth to his seventh child at the tender age of 79, everyone was wondering who Tiffany Chen, Robert De Niro’s girlfriend, is.
Born on August 17, 1943 in Manhattan, the legendary actor grew up in the Greenwich Village and Little Italy neighborhoods and began acting at a young age, inspired by the works of Marlon Brando and Greta Garbo, among others. His breakthrough role came in 1973’s Mean Streets, for which he received critical and audience acclaim for his portrayal of John “Johnny Boy” Civello. This was De Niro’s first collaboration with Martin Scorsese.
In 1976, De Niro married fellow actress Diahnne Abbot, with whom he shares son Raphael and daughter Drena De Niro from Abbott’s previous relationship. The couple separated in 1988, and De Niro dated model Toukie Smith from then until 1996. They have twin sons, Julian and Aaron, who were born in 1995.
In 1997, De Niro married actress Grace Hightower and a year later they had their son Elliot. Although the couple announced their separation in 1999, the divorce was never finalized and they renewed their vows in 2004. They had a daughter in 2011, but Hightower and De Niro announced their official split in 2018. Tiffany Chen has reportedly been Robert De Niro’s girlfriend since they were first spotted together in 2021. FYI, she is not to be confused with another Tiffany Chen present in the entertainment industry who is 64 years old at the time of writing in 2023.

At the premiere of the comedy About My Father on May 9, 2023, De Niro’s co-star Kim Cattrall possibly confirmed their relationship when asked how she felt about his newborn baby. “God bless him. His partner Tiffany is such a beautiful woman,” Cattrall told Extra! She came to the set with her family to watch the shoot once and she was beautiful and sweet. I’m happy for both of them.”
According to an anonymous source quoted by People on May 10, 2023, the actor and Chen live together in Los Angeles, where De Niro “has a busy work schedule.” The insider revealed: “He wrapped Wise Guys earlier this year. He was very focused and energetic during filming. Just so professional and skillful. Truly a master of acting.” They added that “Tiffany was supportive” and “visited the set” her partner was working on: “He seemed excited to have her around.”
On Thursday, De Niro shared further with Gayle King CBS morning that he welcomed Gia Virginia Chen De Niro with his girlfriend Tiffany Chen on Thursday, April 6th. The little girl was born weighing 8 pounds and 6 ounces. Speaking on “About My Dad,” King asked De Niro if any of his children had complained about being embarrassed. “Oh yeah, all the time,” he said, adding that they “don’t care” that their father was Robert De Niro. Speaking to King later, he said the couple were “over the moon” to welcome their new addition.
Chen is a martial arts instructor, and she and De Niro apparently met while filming The Intern, a buddy comedy in which he starred opposite Anne Hathaway. Written and directed by Nancy Meyers. They sparked romance rumors when they were spotted in the south of France during a PDA-packed holiday in August 2021. The actor’s other About My Father co-star, Sebastian Maniscalco, congratulated the legendary actor on the newest addition to his family. “Today I was informed that he had the baby. I didn’t know beforehand that he was going to have a baby but yes God bless him,” Maniscalco told Extra. “He’s a very quiet person who loves spending time with his family and I’m happy for him.”
“My jaw dropped when I heard he had another child,” writer Shawn Levy, author of 2014’s De Niro: A Life, responded to the news with Page Six. “I mean, he’ll be 102 when the boy graduates from college. i think it’s crazy At the same time, I have to say that he is an absolutely great father. In fact, one of the outstanding achievements of his life is staying close to his children and exes.”

Chen and De Niro’s romance came shortly after his split from his wife of 20 years, Grace Hightower. In a post-breakup statement on Nov. 27, 2018, the Oscar-winning actor told People that it was a “difficult” time but that they remained committed to raising their two children together. “Grace and I have two beautiful children together. We are entering a period of transition in our relationship, which is a difficult but constructive process,” he said. De Niro added, “I honor Grace as a wonderful mother and ask for everyone’s privacy and respect as we continue to develop our role as partners in parenting.”
De Niro also has four grandchildren, three by Raphael and one by Drena. During an interview with Cigar Aficionado in 2015, the actor said he has no intention of slowing down personally or professionally. “I’m not really thinking about retirement because I don’t know what else I would do other than do what I do, I think. I don’t feel, and you can tell me how you feel, but I don’t really feel much older than I think,” he said. “I look at myself, I’m not even used to thinking of myself as older. It’s a little disconcerting when you see someone you know in their 30s, 40s, or even 50s who hasn’t aged well or just gotten older. So life is.”
